Kitchen fire breaks out in unoccupied Santa Cruz home Friday morning

SANTA CRUZ, Calif (KION-TV) - On Friday morning, Santa Cruz Fire responded to a fire in a home in the area of Westmoor Court and Westmoor Drive in Santa Cruz.

According Santa Cruz Fire Battalion Chief Todd Meyer, the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, while the home was unoccupied. He adds the people living in that home were away at their second home.

Meyer said they found no victims or pets in the home and the fire was extinguished shortly after. Crews continue to look for any damage and investigating the cause.

This fire took place near another home where a separate house fire killed two pets in November 2023.
