An Oregon man is charged in the killing of a nurse days after her wedding

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) — A neighbor of an Oregon nurse who was found dead just days after her wedding has been arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse. Beaverton police said they arrested 27-year-old Bryce Schubert in the death of 32-year-old Melissa Jubane. Police conducted a welfare check at Jubane’s apartment in the Portland suburb after she did not show up for her nursing shift Wednesday. Police say her remains have been recovered. The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that Schubert’s public defender tried to plead not guilty on his behalf Monday but that the judge would not accept a plea at this point in the case.
