San Benito County Sheriff’s arrest one person connected to shooting near riverbed

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The San Benito County Sheriff's Office have arrested one person in connection to a shooting that put Hollister High School on lockdown Monday afternoon.

According to officials, 22 years old Luis Huerta Fuentes was identified as a suspect who shot an unknown adult male with a BB style type gun during an altercation near the San Benito riverbed.

Fuentes was arrested and booked at the County Jail on the charges of assault with a deadly weapon and violation of probation.

Officials say there is still one person of interest yet to be identified and this incident appears to be isolated. There are no further threats present to the community.

On Monday, two suspects were reported with guns near the riverbed behind the high school, according to the San Benito County Sheriff's Office.

An San Benito County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Facebook that an adult male was shot by an airsoft gun during an altercation with another adult near the riverbed behind the high school. The location was 400-500 yards away from the school, reported the sheriff's office, which was not the primary location of any related threats to this incident.

Hollister High School issued a statement to families via Facebook, stating:

"Dear parents and guardians, we want to inform you that Hollister High School is currently under a lockdown. The threat is not on our campus. The threat is at the riverbed behind the high school. Law enforcement is involved and handling the situation. Your child's safety is our top priority, and we will provide updates as we receive them. Please refrain from coming to the school at this time to allow the authorities to do their work. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation."
