Deadly traffic incident Thursday morning near Castroville

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP Monterey confirmed Thursday morning that there was a deadly traffic incident on Nashua Road near Monte Road.

According to Monterey County Sheriff's Office, the 23-year-old female victim has been identified as Maximina Solano-Sabino from Gilroy. The CHP says that Solano-Sabino was crossing the road when she was struck by a Chevy Suburban headed westbound on Nashau Road heading towards Monte Road. There were two people in the vehicle and DUI is not a factor, according to CHP.

The CHP says that the driver of the Chevy cooperated with authorities and pulled over immediately following the accident.

Once they arrived on scene, CHP says that the pedestrian was pronounced dead.

This is a developing story and investigation is still underway.
