Pajaro Middle School reopens following extensive flood damage from March 2023 storms

PAJARO, Calif. (KION-TV) - This year’s first day of school is extra significant for students and staff at Pajaro Middle School. The school reopening after a nearly year and a half closure and extensive renovation effort.

It comes after the March 2023 floods forced to school to close due to the extensive damage.

The campus is ready to welcome about 400 students on Wednesday to nearly remodeled classrooms, a library, and gym. Many returning students, looking forward to coming back to campus after transferring to other nearby schools.

“I'm thrilled to be coming back to our home campus of palmer after a year and a half, this eighth grade year will be this eighth grade year class was only able to be at our home school for six months before the flood," said returning 8th grader Kaleah Alanis.

Tuesday’s ceremony featured various local leaders and school officials. Many taking the time to recognize the extensive work that was completed to get to this point.

“Here we have this beautiful facility, but this facility is nothing without the people, and it's so important that we are here every day to build, to connect, to communicate, to learn and to grow," Pajaro Middle School principal Nicole Marsh.

The reopening of Pajaro Middle School signifying not only a big moment for the students and family, but also for a community continuing to recover from those devastating floods.
