Forward progress on Metz Fire in South Monterey County has stopped, according to CAL FIRE

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) – CAL FIRE said, as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, forward progress has stopped on the Metz Fire.

As of Wednesday morning, CAL FIRE says the Metz Fire remains at 1,100 acres and is at 70% containment. Resources will stay on scene for mop-up and patrol due to expected warm weather.

Two vegetation fires are burning near Greenfield in South Monterey County. Greenfield police confirm that the Apple Fire is located on Apple Avenue west of 13th Street, while the Metz Fire is on Metz Road close to Elm Avenue.

The fire started just after 2 p.m. The winds are fueling the flames in the area. There are also reports of road closures. CAL FIRE confirmed that there are no immediate structures threatened at this time.

Emergency personnel are currently responding to the two separate fires. CAL FIRE confirmed that a large plane order has been made and that the fire is at 1,100 acres at 5% contained.

For everyone’s safety, the Greenfield police are asking people to avoid these areas to facilitate the work of emergency crews as they combat the fires.
