Jury finishes 2nd day of deliberations without a verdict at Sen. Bob Menendez’s bribery trial

Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — The jury at the bribery trial of Sen. Bob Menendez finished its second day of deliberations without a verdict. The New York jury resumes its work Tuesday. Jurors in the Manhattan federal court trial sent a note Monday to the judge wanting to know if unanimity is required to acquit “on a single count.” The New Jersey Democrat is charged in 16 of 18 counts. The 70-year-old Menendez has denied he engaged in a bribery scheme from 2018 to 2023 with three New Jersey businessmen, including by serving as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt. He and two businessmen who allegedly paid him bribes of gold and cash have pleaded not guilty.
