Leaders in Europe and the US express relief mixed with concern about France’s election result

Associated Press

BERLIN (AP) — Leaders across Europe and from the United States have reacted with relief mixed with concern to the result of the French legislative election. The far-right National Rally in France didn’t come out as the strongest party as many pro-European leaders had feared. But with no party securing a majority in parliament, France is facing the prospect of a hung parliament and political paralysis. German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz expressed relief that the nationalist far right did not emerge as the strongest party. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote, “In Paris enthusiasm, in Moscow disappointment, in Kyiv relief. Enough to be happy in Warsaw.”
