Second annual Santa Cruz cookout held at DeLaveaga Park
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The second annual Santa Cruz cookout has been rescheduled for May 11th. It was pushed back due to the Shigella outbreak that happened earlier this year.
This event hosted black-owned vendors, business, and creators. Many people came out to celebrate and uplift black life, joy and futures.
Also at the event, the cookout founder Ayo Banjo gave out a five hundred dollar scholarship to the Reggie Stephens Foundation which is a non-profit helping the youth in Santa Cruz county achieve their goals in sports, art and music.
“I wanted Santa Cruz to have a tradition where we don’t necessarily need a particular holiday or a particular thing going on to come together like this, and so this is really my way of trying to normalize new traditions," Banjo said.
Local artist came out for a live musical performance. The intention of the cookout is to bring different families and communities together to connect.
Banjo, wants to make sure this is an annual tradition in Santa Cruz County.
