Negotiations continue between UC Santa Cruz and Pro-Palestine student protestors

Negotiations remain ongoing between Pro-Palestinian student protestors and UC Santa Cruz on Thursday. It comes as roughly 100 students continue to fill an encampment on the university's campus.

“So far, the university has not offered us much to work with not a lot of strong promises and that is what we demand," Encampment Media Liason "Savvy" said. "We are asking for full divestment from all weapons, manufacturing companies, all military industrial complexes. We are asking for full transparency about the university's endowment.”

She goes on to say, the university has brought up counter offers that has fallen short of what they’re asking for.

UC Santa Cruz released the following statement regarding the situation:

"The campus has entered into dialogue with the students to explore how we can amicably resolve this situation. The continued safety and well-being of our students and employees remains our highest priority. We are continuing to support free expression while also allowing our teaching and research mission to continue unabated."

The protests, which first began on May 1, now come as the situation in Rafah escalates.

"We are not giving up, no matter how much they try to suppress our voices, no matter how much they try to brutalize us, if they do, we are not giving up, we are standing our ground," "Savvy" said.

Students at UC Santa Cruz continue joining students around the country, asking for peace starting with a ceasefire in Gaza. Protestors add, while those negotiations are ongoing, they’re hoping police will remain out of the camp. So far, there has been no police escalation on campus.
