Salinas Police arrest man accused of attempted rape in East Salinas
Salinas Police arrested a 29-year-old man in connection to an attempted rape case in East Salinas.
Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, a 24-year-old woman in Salinas along the 900-block of North Madeira Ave. began screaming for help, according to police. Her screams, were chilling enough to get someone to dial 911.
“Our officers responded and quickly located the 24-year-old victim in this case, and began an investigation into when attempted rape that had taken place," Salinas Police Department Commander Gabriel Gonzalez said. "Within 24 hours, this case was investigated by detectives and by police officers and they were able to locate the suspect in East Salinas and take him into custody”
Surveillance video at the scene captured the entire incident, and according to Commander Gonzalez it also say gave them a clear image of the suspect.
The suspect is a 27-year-old man, who is now facing multiple charges including attempted rape and kidnapping. Salinas police say he has been booked into the Monterey County Jail.
“We can see that there's some physical movement of the victim by the suspect. It's not a significant distance, but a distance nonetheless, which warrants the kidnapping charge," Commander Gonzalez said.
Salinas Police says they aren’t releasing the surveillance video at this time since it's considered evidence
