AUSTIN, Texas (KION-TV) -- Tesla announced on Friday that the company is recalling 3,878 of its 2024 Cybertrucks because the accelerator pedal sticks and could potentially cause the vehicle to speed up, which can increase the chance of a crash.

This recall includes the 2024 Cybertruck model made between Nov. 13, 2023 and April 4 of this year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA discovered that the accelerator pedal pad can become dislodged and then trapped by the vehicle's interior trim.

NHTSA reported this week that Tesla was not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths related to the problem, and that new accelerator pedal units are being installed in Cybertrucks currently in production.

Last October, one month prior to the initial release of Cybertruck, Tesla creator Elon Musk admitted the challenges of mass producing the vehicle, saying, "We dug our own grave with Cybertruck," according to a CBS news report about the recall. This statement followed a two-year delay with its original production schedule.

Tesla said that if any Cybertruck owner experiences issues with their accelerator pedals, they may contact the customer service at 1.877.798.3752 for a free replacement. The recall number is SB-24-33-003.

Notification letters will also be mailed to vehicle owners in June.
