Hurricane force winds expected just off the Monterey coast

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) - Very dangerous winds are expected today. Widespread gusts of 45 to 60 mph with gusts up to 70-80 mph near Big Sur and portions of the Santa Cruz Mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

A hurricane force wind warning has been issued for the coastal waters from Point Pinos to Point Piedras Blancas out to 10 nautical miles.

A high wind warning has been issued for all of Monterey County until 10 p.m. Sunday night. Gusts could be up to 60MPH or more. There have already been widespread power outages reported in Santa Cruz County. There have been reports of trees down in both Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
