Pebble Beach getting ready for AT&T Pro-Am tournament
PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF. (KION-TV)- “I'm very thankful to see that little thing in the sky and hope it sticks around for the following week.”
Preparations for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am are underway.
Director Steve John says the process to make the event happen year-round. Even the recent storm wasn’t going to slow them down.
“We take over the golf course to build roughly the first week of January,” John said. “And there's a lot of products on site.”
The construction and preparation for this tournament takes a lot of people. All of this is not only for the enjoyment of the sport but also to give back.
“At the end of the day, where we are focused on driving dollars so that nonprofits in our communities we serve, we surpassed 200 million in giving last year,” John said. “First in the PGA Tour. To do so, we'll contribute almost $18 million to our communities this year. As a result of this tournament.”
The golf course always puts on a product people can enjoy seeing yearly.
According to John, “We put on a phenomenal golf tournament with the help of our 1600 volunteers and our partners so that people can come out and enjoy the beauty of Pebble Beach and the golf and the celebrities, the athletes right across the board.”
We've got you covered for those who may be wondering about the security preparations. When we spoke to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, we’ll have more information about that Wednesday.
The tournament continues to try adding new celebrities for this and future events. It was announced yesterday that recently retired soccer star Gareth Bale would play in the tournament.
