Marina drug dealer faces more than ten years for possession of nearly 800 fentanyl pills: DA

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) Update Dec. 16, 2023, at 4:36 p.m.- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced that a Marina man was found guilty of possession of fentanyl for sale on Tuesday.

Royce Dean Curl II, 40 of Marina, was found guilty of possession for sales of fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon and possession of fentanyl with a firearm, said Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni.

On May 19, 2022, the Investigations Bureau of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at Curl's home on the 3100 block of Del Monte Boulevard. Curl was searched outside his home and found with around 296 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl in his sweatshirt pocket packaged for sale and $2,515 in cash, said Pacioni.

Deputies found around 460 counterfeit oxycodone pills with fentanyl, and a loaded semi-automatic 10mm pistol in his dresser.

The pills were tested at the Department of Justice, Freedom Laboratory, and were confirmed to contain Fentanyl, said Pacioni.

Curl will be sentenced on September 15, 2023, and faces up to ten years and eight months in state prison.

Deputies: Violent gang member arrested with fentanyl, guns and cash in Marina

Monterey Police said they arrested a violent gang member and served a search warrant on the 3100 block of Del Monte Boulevard in Marina on Thursday.

Royce Curl, 39, was contacted in Marina and found with M30 pills believed to contain fentanyl, heroin, marijuana and cash, according to police.

Detectives then searched Curl's home and found a "large amount of counterfeit M30 pills believed to contain fentanyl, a loaded handgun and over $50,000 in cash." Curls is not allowed to own a firearm due to a past criminal conviction, said police.

Curl was booked into Monterey County Jail on various weapons and drug charges.
