Family hoping for closure after mother’s Seaside cold case murder in 1999
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV)-- UPDATE MAY 16, 2022, at 10:21 a.m.-- We spoke with the family of a school teacher still looking for answers after she was murdered in 1999.
Nancy Marks is believed to have been murdered by Juan Antonio Beltran Lopez. He has evaded law enforcement and hasn't been seen since that dreadful day in August.
"Nobody wants that phone, that's a phone call you remember for the rest of your life, said William Macklin, son of Nancy Marks. "That just shook you to the core, to the bottom of your body."
There is an empty feeling in her family's hearts. She never got to meet a few grandchildren born after her death.
"Yeah, that never... It doesn’t go away… (crying) It doesn’t go away," said Macklin. "You know, it just doesn’t go away. Something is there and it’s always going to be there."
Police say the two may have been romantically involved and Lopez shot Marks in the neck, killing her before escaping never to be seen again.
"This was investigated – solved nearly shortly after the homicide happened," said Seaside Police. "However, the suspect fled and there doesn’t seem to be any leads on where he’s at. So we decided to look at the case again."
William is hoping with more attention drawn to this case there will be a better chance of Lopez's capture.
