One person killed in crash near Aromas identified

AROMAS, Calif. (KION-TV) UPDATE APRIL 7th 2022 at 10:52 a.m.-- CHP has identified a Gilroy woman that died in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 129 west of Old Chittenden Road.

Rosalba Gonzalez, 57, was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra eastbound, and for an unknown reason there was a head-on crash with a 2014 Honda Odyssey traveling westbound, said CHP.

After the first crash, a 1992 Acura Integra traveling west hit the Honda.

The driver of the Nissan Sentra was pronounced dead on the scene and the other two drivers were taken to Natividad Medical Center, according to CHP.

The driver of the Odyssey sustained major injuries and the driver of the Acura suffered moderate injuries.

CHP said it is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in this incident.

UPDATE APRIL 6TH 2022 at 11:30 p.m.-- The road just west of Old Chittenden Road was reopened around 7:00 p.m. following a four-vehicle crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY

AROMAS, Calif. (KION-TV)-- CHP Santa Cruz is currently investigating a deadly crash involving four vehicles.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. on Highway 129 by Old Chittenden Road, east of Aromas.

The road is closed just west of Old Chittenden Road and there is no estimated time for reopening.

CHP said that they are trying to get one-way traffic control soon.

At least two others have been taken to the hospital with major injuries.

No other details are available at this time.
