Suspect dies in car crash after allegedly speeding past an officer

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) One person died in a car crash near Harrison Road and Salas Road in Salinas, according to California Highway Patrol.
Salinas Police said one of their officers was doing traffic enforcement at Main Street and Massa Street at around 10 a.m. on Monday. According to their report, a black Lexus SUV tried to speed the past officer. The police said the SUV was going 75 mph and their officer tried to catch up with the suspect who attempted to pass a white Dodge Dakota and make a left turn into Sala Road. The SUV ended-up hitting the Dodge and crashing into an unoccupied Toyota minivan that was parked on the side of the road.
The suspect died in the crash and the two adults in the Dodge were not injured, according to Salinas PD.
California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
One car was cleared from the scene and the CHP officers said the roads should be open in an hour. Salinas PD has a separate investigation going on regarding this incident.
