Two people arrested after armed robbery during Offer Up transaction in Salinas
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Two people have been arrested after an Offer Up transaction turned into an armed robbery in Salinas.
On Friday, the victim arranged to sell three pairs of Air Jordan sneakers through Offer Up, and police said the potential buyers asked to meet in north Salinas at night.
When the victim met with the four potential buyers, police said one person pulled out a handgun. They then grabbed the shoes and left in a gray sedan.
Two days later, the victim reported seeing the stolen shoes being sold on Instagram using the same photo he used on offer up. The victim arranged to by the shoes at the mall and got help from police.
When officers got there, the victim pointed out a Toyota Camry that they said the suspects were in. Two people were inside, and they were identified as the robbery suspects.
Both suspects, a 17-year-old juvenile and 18-year-old Dominic Wilson, are Stockton residents. Police found that Wilson is on probation, so officers searched the vehicle. Inside, they said they found the stolen shoes and a handgun that was believed to be the one used in the robbery.
The suspects are facing armed robbery, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of a concealed gun charges.
The Salinas Police Department is reminding residents that it has established a Safe Sale and Safety Zone in the parking lot in front of the Police Service of Salinas Headquarters to prevent online transactions from becoming criminal or violent.
