Monterey County sees delays in voter results

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

The Central Coast is awaiting voter results from the Monterey County Elections Office due to a delay, leaving some local candidates on the edge as they wait to find out if they won the race.

One of the closer races involves the seats for Seaside City Council.
Former Mayor David Pacheco currently leads all candidates as he chases one of the seats.

The showdown currently stands between 23-year-old Alexis Arrazola and Regina Mason, with Tinisha Dunn following close behind.

As ballots continue to get sorted out at the Monterey County Elections Office, Arrazola says his journey was significant whether it’s a win or lose.

“Whatever happens this election cycle, we managed to make history,” says Arrazola.

“We were able to be the first young Latino on the ballot and if we win this election, we’ll be the youngest Latino in Office.”

Arrazola is currently 5 votes ahead of Mason.

Monterey County Elections Office officials say delays are normal and add they have no issues related to counting ballots.

They add results could potentially be announced on Friday.
