McBroken website alerts users to broken ice cream machines at McDonald’s
(KION) Ever go to McDonald's to get an ice cream cone only to find out when you get there that the ice cream machine is broken? Now there is a website that could prevent that from happening.
The website, mcbroken.com, was created to let users know which McDonald's ice cream machines are broken in their area, and it even shows the percentage of broken machines in major cities and the national average.
As of 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 23, the national average of currently broken machines is 7.49%. The highest listed number is 13.33% in Phoenix, and San Francisco and San Jose come in at 6.67% and 3.7% respectively.
To track the broken machines, the creator, @rashiq, said on social media that he reverse engineered McDonald's internal api and is "placing an order worth $18,752 every minute at every McDonald's in the US to figure out which locations have a broken ice cream machine." He said the orders are queries, so no orders are executed and no ice cream is wasted.
