Watsonville man arrested for allegedly assaulting leader of conservative free speech rally in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (KION and KPIX) A Watsonville man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting the leader of a conservative free speech rally in San Francisco over the weekend, according to the CBS affiliate in San Francisco.
KPIX reports that 35-year-old Adora Anderson of Watsonville was arrested Sunday afternoon in Oakland in connection to the incident.
The victim, Philip Anderson, had reportedly walked off the stage when counter protesters started chanting and throwing plastic and glass bottles over police barricades, and he was punched in the face. He was left with a bloody mouth, a front tooth missing and another tooth hanging loosely, according to KPIX.
Investigators identified Anderson as the suspect in the hours following the attack. He was taken to the San Francisco County Jail and booked on mayhem charges with a hate crime enhancement.
Police said three officers were injured when they were assaulted with pepper spray and caustic chemicals, and they are still looking for the person or persons responsible.
Team Save America organized the rally to protest Twitter, which the group says squelches conservative speech, according to KPIX.
