Former Monterey County reserve firefighter dies of cancer
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The North Monterey County Fire Protection District announced the death of one of their own.
Brad Howard Jones, who served as a reserve firefighter with the district for nearly 20 years, died at home at the end of September after a short struggle with cancer, according to the district.
Jones was born in Carmel in 1958 and was a longtime resident of Seaside before moving to Castroville to raise a family with his wife, Carrie. The two eventually moved to Garden Valley.
"Brad dedicated his life to fulfilling the happiness of others. He lived for gatherings with family and friends. A man of many talents, he took great pride in crafting beautiful treasures for those he loved," the district said.
While living in Monterey County, he spent time serving as a reserve firefighter, but the district said he also volunteered for several organizations rebuilding homes, including Habitat for Humanity, and spent time working with PG&E, Duke Energy, NCPA and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.
His funeral is set for Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside. The district said anyone who would like to send flowers is asked to donate to his living Garden memorial fund or the chILD Foundation instead.
