SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Cal Fire and Santa Cruz fire agencies responded to a wildfire about a mile north of UCSC's campus in Wilder Ranch Sunday evening.

According to Cal Fire, the Heller Fire started about 4:22 p.m. and burned about 1 acre. It is 100 percent contained, according to the Cal Fire CZU twitter account.

Crews dropped fire retardant around the flames and teams were sent up to suppress the flames. The cause is under investigation.

The UC Santa Cruz campus police chief posted on Facebook saying there was no threat to campus at that time. He did advise people should be prepared to leave if the fire spreads even more. He also said there was noticeable smoke at the residential campus.
