Central Coast demonstrators demand justice for Breonna Taylor
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION)
Six months following the death of Breonna Taylor, who was fatally shot in her home in Kentucky during a police raid, protesters continue taking to the streets to call for justice.
This week, a grand jury decided not to indict the officers involved for their role in Taylor's death, a decision that sparked outrage across the country.
"There's a larger general context and that's of general context," says Jim Clark, Monterey resident.
"It's been going on for a long time and it has to stop."
In Monterey, demonstrators gathered for a rally, saying they felt it was their duty to speak up for Taylor and show support for all Black women.
Some said they wanted to shine a light on Taylor's case to prevent more incidents like that from happening.
"I should not have to wait until someone here is murdered to speak up on it here," says Seaside resident, Queen Tay.
Protesters across the country are calling for police reform.
