Total of 115 employees test positive for COVID-19 at Soledad prisons

SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION) Between the Correctional Training Facility and Salinas Valley State Prison, a total of 115 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that 60 employees have tested positive at SVSP, and 39 of them have returned to work. The CDCR reports that 55 employees have tested positive in total at CTF, and 17 of them have returned to work.

Late last month, an inmate at CTF died of apparent COVID-19 related causes. So far, that is the only death the CDCR has reported at either prison.

At CTF, the CDCR reports that there are 23 active cases, and 13 of the cases are new within the last 14 days. 87 inmates have recovered from the virus.

At SVSP, the CDCR reports that there are 40 active cases, and 21 of them are new within the last 14 days. 18 inmates have recovered.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 9,337 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Monterey County. More than 6,400 people have recovered, and 65 people have died.
