Gas leak evacuations in Hollister lifted
HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 9/17/2020 1 p.m. Hollister police said PG&E has taken care of the gas leak and evacuations have been lifted.
UPDATE 9/17/2020 12 p.m. Mandatory evacuations are in place on several streets due to a gas leak.
There are evacuations on Cushman between Tres Pinos and Eastview and on Slate Drive. Tres Pinos between Prune and Ladd Lane is closed, and the west parking lot of the Taco Bell on Tres Pinos is closed.
A shelter in place has been issued for Severinson and Velado Streets.
The recreation center at 300 West Street is open for evacuations. About 80 people have been evacuated.
PG&E is at the scene and will release a timeline for evacuees to return, but police estimate it could take at least a few hours.
Police said a construction company working in the 1600 block of Cushman Street broke a natural gas line, which caused a gas leak.
PREVIOUS STORY: The Hollister Fire Department has ordered the evacuation of homes and businesses on three streets.
The evacuations are on the 1600 block of Cushman Street, the 200 and 300 block of Tres Pinos Road and all of Slate Avenue.
The City is asking residents to avoid Cushman, Nash, Severinsen, California, Nevada and Eastview streets.
