Donation warehouses for Santa Cruz County fire evacuees to close

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz County Officials say that at 4 p.m. Friday, warehouses accepting donations for fire evacuees will be closing.

The warehouses in Santa Cruz and Watsonville will no longer accept donations, but the county is working with community partners to find locations for dropping off and picking up donated items.

Since the warehouses opened, the total community donations to CZU Lightning Complex evacuees includes:

  • 20,000 cases of water
  • 2,000 sleeping bags and pillows
  • 2,500 blankets
  • 1,200 tents
  • 1,000 tarps

Other donations included non-perishable food items, toiletries, clothes, hundreds of pairs of shoes and much more.

If evacuees need water, clothing, toiletries, non-perishable food or other times while in transition, the county is asking them to call Santa Cruz County General Services at 831-454-2210 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The county said residents should be proud of the support they have shown for their neighbors and thanked the public for its support during this time.
