Two people arrested on attempted murder charges in Salinas, third arrested on warrant
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Three people have been arrested in Salinas, and two of them are charged with attempted murder.
The attempted murder charges are connected to a shooting that happened Aug. 21 near Carr Avenue and E. Market Street. Officers responded to the scene shortly before 10 p.m., and the victim said three people in a grey Kia Stinger approached them, and one fired shots.
On Thursday, SWAT, HNT, VSTF and detectives served a search warrant on Madeira Avenue, and two people there, 21-year-old Roberto Amesquita and a 17-year-old male, allegedly placed themselves at the scene of the shooting. Police believe the victim was a rival gang member.
During the search, detectives said the found a semi-automatic handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, 16 pounds of marijuana and more than $18,000 in cash.
Amesquita was booked into the Monterey County Jail on attempted murder, gang conspiracy, possession of marijuana for sales and gun charges. The 17-year-old was booked into Juvenile Hall on attempted murder and gang conspiracy charges. A third person, 31-year-old Armando Reyes, was arrested for a felony no-bail warrant for domestic violence.
