Central Coast locals expecting hotter weather without beaches this weekend
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) With that hot weather expected this weekend, cities along the coast are already anticipating visitors to pack their streets.
And that means beach closures along the coast in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.
"Usually, the beach because we're born and raised here. So it's usually the beach, but now no. We'll just be in the house probably eating," said Yvette Robinson, a Seaside resident.
Once again, to prevent out-of-towners from flooding the area, beaches along the coast are getting closed. Not just here, but nearly every state and local beach from Santa Cruz County through Carmel.
"It's very understandable considering the times that we're in right now. It hasn't always been this way, but now we have to deal with what's new and what's going on now," said Vonda Harris, a Seaside resident.
Many businesses, perfectly suited for hot weather cool downs, benefit from the tourism and residents stopping by.
"It's fine if everything's monitored which I feel like we do a really good job of in Monterey… is making sure that we don't overpopulate the indoor establishments and things like that," said Tayler Burke, a Monterey resident.
One thing everyone is happy about now: there is less smoke in the air.
"When the smoke was really at its peak, I didn't do my walking because it's hard to be outside with all that smoke and then on top of that you have the mask on, so that just makes it even worse," said Harris.
While it is going to be hot for residents, it will especially be hot for firefighters who are still working fires in Santa Cruz County and near Big Sur. They are hoping the conditions won't spread the fires too much.
