SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz County's Volunteer Center said that more than 3,000 volunteer shifts have been filled and 2,500 people have registered to help at shelters or donation centers for fire victims, but now the county is transitioning to long-term recovery.

As it does that, the Volunteer Center said it will continue to need volunteers in the coming days and months.

The organization said it has an urgent need for volunteers at its Donation Relief Centers, especially at the one in Watsonville, over the next several days between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Those aged 14 and up can volunteer with a parent or guardian, and the Volunteer Center says to be prepared to lift and move donations. They recommend wearing closed-toed shoes, a mask and comfortable clothes.

Volunteers are required to be Santa Cruz County residents to keep roads clear and follow COVID-19 safety procedures . It is not available for Court Community Service Participants with criminal cases.

Those interested can sign up to volunteer here.
