Cal Fire CZU shares photos of hazards in fire evacuation zones

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Cal Fire has been stressing the importance of staying out of areas evacuated due to the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires, and the agency shared photos to show why.

In one of the photos, a section of of road caved in. Cal Fire said heat from the fires melted the asphalt and that it is just one example of many hazards in the area.

Another example shows downed trees, and one of them appears to have fallen on a house and completely ripped through it. Cal Fire said its crews have seen trees that have fallen on homes, cars and roadways.

Safety inspectors and others are working in the area to make sure it is safe before residents return to their homes.
