Weather continues to help in fire fight

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

Fire crews say “things are looking good in both fires” as they gained control of 43 percent containment in the River Fire.

On Tuesday the most of the fire fight was south of the fire where Cal Fire says they were working to contain pockets of open spaces.

“Right now, the most activity in the River Fire is on the south end of the fire that’s where the majority of crews and bull dozers are working putting in direct lines,” said Daniel Bertucelli a public information officer.

Mother Nature continues cooperating and allowing them to make progress.

Neighbors in the Pine Canyon Area, like Beena Menon, say the entire experience was unreal. She and her husband just moved to the Central Coast.

“We’ve been here for two months. We’re finally feeling like we’re settling down and then this happens,” said Menon.

The fire in Pine Canyon did destroy some homes.

People like Menon say they are "indebted" to firefighters with Cal Fire who have spent days on the fire lines, away from their own families.
