San Benito County officials plan for possibility of wildfire reaching county
SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The SCU Lightning Complex Fires are burning across several Northern California counties, and evacuation orders now border San Benito County.
The Sheriff's Office said it has sent personnel along with the Office of Emergency Services and Hollister Fire Department to the base camp for responders at the Alameda County Fairgrounds to be involved with future planning.
Officials are preparing for the possibility of the SCU Lightning Complex Fires affecting San Benito County, but the Sheriff's Office said there is no immediate threat to residents.
The SCU Lightning Complex Fires have burned nearly 230,000 acres, and it is only 5% contained. It is made up of 20 different fires across Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. Evacuation orders extend to the San Benito County line east of Gilroy.
