Five arrested on suspicion of looting in CZU Lightning Complex fire evacuation area
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Five people were arrested on suspicion of looting in the Fall Creek Drive area, a spot where evacuation orders are in place for the CZU Lightning Complex fire.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office got reports of looting and stopped to cars in the area. They said one stopped, but the other took off and ended up in a ditch.
The Sheriff's Office arrested Jose Gandarilla, Susana Luna, Crystal Araujo, Sara Loretz and Crystle Parstch-Lucchesi on charges that include looting, grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary.
In a press conference Friday, the Sheriff's Office said deputies found two vehicles full of stolen items.
"In no way are we leaving these areas unsecured, we are doing our best and will continue to do our best and if you come to victimize our community you will see that," the Sheriff's Office said in a social media post.
