Several Santa Cruz County schools cancel classes, activities due to fire
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 8/24/2020 2:40 p.m. Several schools have suspended programs this week due to the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires.
The following schools have suspended classes:
- Pacific Elementary School
- Bonny Doon Union Elementary School
- San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District (closed through Sept. 8)
- Santa Cruz City School District
- Soquel Union Elementary School District
- Santa Cruz County Office of Education Alternative Education Programs
- Live Oak School District
- Happy Valley Elementary School District
- Mountain Elementary School District
- Scotts Valley Unified School District
PREVIOUS STORY: The Santa Cruz County Office of Education says two school districts and an elementary school have canceled classes and activities due to the CZU Lightning Complex Fires.
The Bonny Doon Union Elementary School District said the school and office will be closed and all activities will be canceled through Friday because staff and families are displaced. The area is under evacuation orders, and Cal Fire said Bonny Doon was directly impacted by the fire.
The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District has also closed its office and schools through Friday. The San Lorenzo Valley area is also under evacuation orders due to the fire. The board meeting is also canceled.
Pacific Elementary has also canceled distance learning, preschool and lunch service for the rest of the week. the Drive by Davenport event is also canceled. The Davenport area is under evacuation orders
