SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) Cal ISO has updated the time for its statewide Flex Alert Wednesday.

The alert will now be in effect from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

During that time, the agency asks that residents reduce their power usage by setting thermostats to 78 degrees, avoiding the use of major appliances, turning off unnecessary lights, unplugging devices or closing blinds.

Because of a statewide heat wave, the agency said it is trying to prevent strain on the electric system and rotating power outages.
