Helicopter pilot killed in crash while responding to Fresno County fire

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KION) A helicopter pilot has died after crashing while responding to a fire in Fresno County.

The Call When Needed helicopter was on a water dropping mission at the Hills Fire, located about 9 miles south of Coalinga, when it crashed.

Air and ground agencies responded to the crash site, but the pilot did not survive. The pilot was the only person in the helicopter.

The Hills Fire started Saturday, and it has burned 1,500 acres and is 35% contained.
