Watch: Lodi police officer pulls man in wheelchair out of path of approaching train

LODI, Calif. (KION) The Lodi Police Department is praising one of its officers who pulled a man in a wheelchair out of the path of an approaching train Wednesday morning.

The department said that at around 8:45 a.m., Officer Erika Urrea was around Lodi Avenue and the railroad tracks when she saw the man in a wheelchair, who appeared to be stuck on the tracks as a train was approaching.

Police said Urrea got out of her vehicle and was able to pull him out of his wheelchair before they both fell back and out of the path of the train.

The 66-year-old man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a leg injury.

The department shared video of the incident on social media.

"Officer Urrea risked her own life to save another and her actions prevented a tragedy today. We are extremely proud of Officer Erika Urrea and her heroism," they wrote in a social media post.
