Item resembling pipe bomb found during response to person in crisis on Soquel Avenue

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) The area around the 1200 block of Soquel Avenue was evacuated when the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office found what appeared to be a pipe bomb in a car.

The Sheriff's Office said it was called to help a person in crisis, and deputies conducted a traffic stop when they found the person. In the vehicle, they saw what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

The area was evacuated, and when the Bomb Team responded, they rendered the device safe and found that the item was not explosive.

The Sheriff's Office said the person in crisis will be receiving health services.
