GONZALES, Calif. (KION) The City of Gonzales has issued an executive order putting fines in place for people who violate face covering orders.

It applies to people who are at work, in a business or around other people, and it goes into effect immediately.

The city said law enforcement may issue warning notices instead of citations for first-time offenders and will distribute face coverings if needed.

“Most of the community has responded extremely well to the changes required during this difficult time and the City is very appreciative, but we need to continue to improve since cases continue to increase," said City Manager Rene Mendez.

The fine for a first violation is set at $100, the second is $500 and all violations after that are subject to a $1,000 fine.
