City of Gilroy added as defendant in Garlic Festival shooting lawsuit
GILROY, Calif. (KION) Several victims of the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting have filed a lawsuit alleging negligence, and the lawsuit now includes the City of Gilroy.
Five victims announced last November that they were suing the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, saying negligent security led to the shooting that killed three people and injured a dozen more.
In addition to the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, the victims are now also suing the City of Gilroy and First Alarm Security and Control, according to the Scarlett Law Group.
The group said the victims are still suffering from PTSD and some are still being treated for their injuries. They said there is not a hearing coming up, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Investigators say the gunman, Santino William Legan, entered the festival grounds at Christmas Hill Park by cutting through a fence to avoid metal detectors. He was killed by law enforcement gunfire.
