Brush fire reroutes traffic on Highway 156
HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION) Crews with Cal Fire and the Hollister Fire Department spent time cleaning up a brush fire that burned near Highway 156 in Hollister, prompting cars to turn around at San Juan Hollister Road on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol said as of 5:02 p.m., traffic was getting rerouted at San Juan Hollister Rd because of the fire.
The vegetation fire erupted around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters used engines, tankers, bulldozers, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
The fire spread at least 9.5 acres, but crews are continuing to mop up through the evening.
One structure, a uninhabited old building, was lost. The cause is still under investigation.
