Seaside homeless encampment pushes back against evictions
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION)
Members of a houseless encampment at Roberts Lake in Seaside are inviting people to stand in solidarity with them against the City Council's decision to move out the encampment.
At a council meeting via Zoom last night, members passed a proposal to relocate the Roberts Lake encampment to a parking area in Fort Ord.
The people would be allowed to stay at the Fort Old location for a period no longer than 120 days.
This decision has upset many people in the encampment who say they fear their health could be at risk if they are not allowed to stay in place for self-quarantine.
During the public comments in the meeting, one participant said relocating the people went against CDC guidelines requiring people to stay in place.
Another participant said, "If you actually want to fix the problem and this is really about helping people, and creating a safer environment, then there needs to be more solutions and it can’t just be moving them up the hill where we can’t see them anymore.”
A post on social media states the solidarity stand will take place all day.
