19-year-old woman killed in Highway 101 crash near Esperanza Road
CHUALAR, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 7/14/20: The California Highway Patrol is providing more information in a deadly multi-car crash near Esperanza Road and Highway 101 that took the life of a 19 year old woman.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. Monday morning and it all began as traffic slowed on northbound 101.
Three vehicles had their cars at a full-stop due to traffic control ahead of them when the CHP says a pick-up truck traveling an unsafe speed slammed into the back of one of the cars, causing a chain reaction type crash.
Four cars, including the truck, were badly damaged.
One of the vehicles was a Nissan Sedan that had three female occupants. Two suffered major injuries while the third died at the scene.
The collision is under investigation but CHP lists the driver of the pick-up as facing possible arrest for the incident and as suffering moderate injuries.
The driver of another car involved in the crash suffered minor injuries but CHP says they refused transport.
Investigators believe alcohol/drugs did not play a role in the crash.
