MONTEREY, Calif. (KION)

The number one rule for beach goers this weekend is no large gatherings.

The city of Monterey announced all of its beaches will be closed for the holiday weekend.

Every parking lot for every beach around the Central coast will also be closed.

Officials say this is to prevent large gatherings and to maintain public health and safety.

Activities like walking, going for a run, paddle boarding and kayaking will be allowed.

Things like laying down on the sand and picnics with food and beverages will not be allowed.

Face mask orders will be enforced and patrols will be stepped to make sure all people adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Anyone not wearing a face mask will be fined $100.

This amount will increase the more citations a person gets.
