Evacuations underway in Paso Robles due to vegetation fire
PASO ROBLES, Calif. (KION and KEYT)
UPDATE 6/22/2020 6 p.m. Two structures have been destroyed in the River Fire burning in Paso Robles, officials told KION's sister station.
The fire has burned about 10 acres and is 10% contained.
Evacuations are still in place in several area neighborhoods, and evacuation sites have been set up at the Paso Robles Veterans Hall and the Senior Center on Scott Street.
Police say South River Road is closed between Creston and Navajo Street. Creston is closed from River to Ferro Lane, and Capitol Hill and Elm Court are completely closed.
Closures are expected to be in place overnight.
PG&E's outage map shows that more than 2,000 customers in the area are without power.
PREVIOUS STORY: A vegetation fire near Paso Robles has prompted evacuations in several neighborhoods, according to KION's sister station.
The fire apparently started in the Salinas Riverbed Monday at around 2 p.m., but spread beyond it.
Paso Robles police said residents in the areas around River Road, Navajo, Creston, Shannon Hill, Elm, Walnut, Capital Hill, Rolling Hill, Montbello Oaks and Kleck are being asked to evacuate.
Police said River Road is closed from Navajo to 13th and Union to Kleck Road.
