Salinas rally held in support of law enforcement

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

People in Salinas gathered at City Hall on Thursday evening to voice their support for men and women in uniform.

They are opposed to defunding the Salinas Police Department and held signs saying “more funding not less.”

Participants say Salinas has plenty of crime and cannot afford a decrease in officers.

Several people made statements including several victims of crime.

Cheryl Ward Kaiser spoke about the “Heroes” who helped her overcome the trauma of her husband's murder and daughter's rape. Three decades ago, five men broke into her home looking for a money safe.

Kaiser says within 27 hours, law enforcement found and arrested the men who committed the crime before they could hurt anyone else.

Victims say until “you have to call 911” do you understand their true value.
