SALINAS, Calif. (KION) For the first time in its history, the City of Salinas has raised a pride flag at City Hall in honor of Pride Month.

The flag was raised because of the efforts made by community members, according to an employee at The Epicenter.

The Epicenter has a partnership of Monterey County Child Welfare Services and VOICES, that helps at-risk young adults connect with resources.

VOICES is a youth-designed and youth-led program for transition-age foster youth as well.

About a dozen people were present at the flag raising, including members of the Salinas Valley Pride Celebration nonprofit organization.

The Epicenter employee tells KION that they received support from City Councilmember Scott Davis.
