One person dead after an SUV went over cliff near Gorda

GORDA, Calif. (KION) UPDATE: 11:11 A.M. 06/09/20, the CHP now confirms one person is dead following a crash south of Gorda.

Investigators say a Jeep Cherokee traveling northbound on Highway 1 when it crossed over to the southbound lane and off a 300 foot cliff.

Big Sur Fire crews say they were the first on scene and that the vehicle appeared to have been there for at least 24 hours.

Big Sur Fire also says the accident was not witnessed by anyone, only the aftermath of it was spotted by someone stopping to take a photo of the scenery before noticing the wreckage.

CHP has not identified the deceased individual but say the Jeep involved in the crash was registered with Texas plates.

The California Highway Patrol confirms that at least one person has died after a vehicle went over a cliff.

The CHP said they got reports of a black Lexus SUV that went over a cliff south of Gorda off Highway 1 at around 10:20 Monday morning.
